MEMBER OF THE MONTH

September 2026

Martin Westly

HRTC MEMBER OF THE MONTH FOR SEPTEMBER

Huge congratulations to Martin Westley for such a successful September this year and for winning our Member of the Month award.
It was such an honour to present him with the trophy this morning before Parkrun and on his birthday too!
Martin started his running journey 10 years ago and has gone from strength to strength since that day.
This month he beat his own pb record at Gunpowder parkrun with a 15.42 5k and then ran a 2.30.49 marathon pb in Berlin. This phenomenal time broke the club’s M 20-39 record by 1.44 mins, a record which has stood since 1989.
Martin works incredibly hard and it’s wonderful that he remains committed to our club, supporting us in our Xcountry league and Mid Week league.

August 2026

TJ Rowlands

HRTC MEMBER OF THE MONTH FOR AUGUST

It was such a pleasure and honour to award TJ with the MOTM trophy at the beginning of the track session tonight.
He works so hard for the club behind the scenes and also as membership secretary. He is friendly, supportive, dependable and always willing to help.
In August, he showed us how with hard work, dedication to training, determination and belief, anything is possible. He swam, cycled and ran along with the amazing Erynn Palmer to complete the Ironman in Vichy in France.
He was beset with injury worries during his training, but made no fuss and always managed to keep them at bay by adapting his training.
He has become a great role model and inspiration to anyone looking for similar challenges and that is why he is such a popular and worthy winner of Member of the Month.
Congratulations TJ and thank you for all you do for the club.

July 2026

Emma Hills

HRTC MEMBER OF THE MONTH FOR JULY

Congratulations to Emma Mills, our July MOTM hero. It was such an honour to present Emma with this award today before parkrun.
Her running journey this last year has been phenominal. This time last year she was absolutely delighted with a 45 minute Harlow parkrun pb, having completed a 0 to 5k course.
Since then she joined our club, embraced the training and social side and has gone from strength to strength. This morning she managed yet another Harlow pb of 27.07.
She is a very popular member who has impressed so many of us with her determination and strength to run faster and faster.
We are all delighted for you, Emma and wish you all the best in your next challenge of running a half marathon. You’re winning at life!

June 2026

George Andreou

MEMBER OF THE MONTH FOR JUNE

What a fantastic way to start the weekend by awarding George Andreou his well deserved MOTM trophy.
He is young, fast, a little bit crazy and just what we want at HRTC!
He has amazed and astonished us with his speed at MWL and in doing so, helping us get promoted. He also ran a Harlow Parkrun in crocs in under 20 minutes!
He then had this very bright idea of running 100k on one of those hot Sundays. They say what doesn’t kill you, makes you stronger!
Well George, in that case, they don’t come much stronger than you. Huge congratulations on completing that tough and energy sapping challenge. You did it in aid of men’s mental health and it must have taken every ounce of yours.
You have proved yourself to be a true Superstar and a very worthy winner of this month’s Member of the Month.
Thank you for inspiring us all.

May 2026

Jochebed Mpanga

HRTC MEMBER OF THE MONTH FOR MAY

What a joy it was to present Jochebed with this prestigious award after parkrun this morning.
She has wowed us all with her brilliant running, enthusiasm, commitment, smiley face and general joie de vivre. Since joining she has thrown herself into participating in all that the club has to offer, whether volunteering, participating in races or carrying Cyril the seagull round on her back during her birthday parkrun!
She is now a valuable scoring member of our Mid Week races.
A result of this, is her ability to get faster and faster and during May she managed to get 3 pb’s. I imagine there will be plenty more of those to come in the future.
Thank you Joche for all you give to the club. You are a valued addition to it and a worthy winner of Member of the Month.

April 2026

James Dowsett

HRTC MEMBER OF THE MONTH FOR APRIL
Every month I have the pleasure of giving out the MOTM trophy to a club hero. Tonight I gave it to our very own knight in shining armour, Sir James Dowsett!
His epic London marathon dressed in armour and in record time, not only gave him a World Guiness Record, but also an easy winner of our Member of the Month.
By reading his race report, we all know the hard work, determination, resilience, mental strength and iron will that he needed to get that record. The heat of the day and the weight of his armour took their toll.
We knew he was already an Ironman and in London, he proved it yet again.
Well done, James for the marathon, the World Record and for raising so much money for the children at Great Ormand Street.
We applaud you!

March 2026

Liam Reilly

MEMBER OF THE MONTH FOR MARCH
What a pleasure it was to visit Liam Reilly tonight and present him with the MOTM trophy.
Sue was there aiding and abetting me to track him down.
He has been on an incredible journey from couch to completing 6 Superhalfs and on Sunday he’ll be running the Brighton marathon!
On the way there, he has made so many friends who describe him as a good soul, a calming and genuine person, a strong and resilient guy, someone who is happy to slow his pace to support others.
Liam is consistently nominated for member of the month, so I’m delighted that this time he’s actually won it.. We are so proud of all you have achieved, Liam and wish you well in Brighton.

February 2026

JAMES EBSWORTH

MEMBER OF THE MONTH FOR FEBRUARY
It was great presenting James Ebsworth with the Member of the Month trophy tonight.
Super James has been working hard at his running to prepare for the London Marathon and in doing so, has been inspiring us all with one pb after another, especially at parkrun. He is a very popular member of the club, modest, always willing to help and a good friend to many.
He will happily back run if needed and looks out for others at social runs. He also loves the social nights out and is rumoured to love a cheeky pink tequila.
Congratulations James, we’re all delighted with your present brilliant form and wish you continued success with the rest of your marathon training.

January 2026

CARINNE KUBELUN JAY

MEMBER OF THE MONTH FOR JANUARY
It took a while to track her down, but finally tonight, I was able to present Carinne Kubelun Jay with her member of the month trophy for January.
Carinne has amazed us all with her incredible comeback after years of injury.
She is a role model and inspiration for anyone who has been injured. She was a brilliant runner for our club about 7 years ago, but then was forced out by sustained and serious injuries. She has now returned fitter and faster than ever.
Her success in the Xcountry meant that she was our highest scoring woman and Kerry Mavris awarded her the winning trophy for her age category tonight.  We are so proud of you, Carinne, and couldn’t be happier that you have returned to the club.
Carinne’s hard work, resilience and determination, along with her being such a lovely, friendly person has made her a popular and worthy winner of this award.
Congratulations Carinne. You deserve this award and the recognition that goes with it. Be proud!

December 2025

LEWIS TOWNSEND

MEMBER OF THE MONTH FOR DECEMBER
Huge congratulations to Lewis Townsend who was nominated and voted as our latest Member of the Month.
What a month it was too! It started with him smashing his pb by over 9 minutes at the Valencia Marathon in a time of 3.36.01, and then continued with him getting another pb at 5k by dipping under 20 minutes for the Harlow Parkrun. He had already achieved an amazing pb at Hatfied in the 5 mile race.
Lewis has been a member of the club for sometime, but has suffered from a few injuries which has held him back. Through hard work, grit and determination he has persevered and he is now reaping the rewards.
We are all delighted for you, Lewis and really look forward to seeing all the success you will undoubtedly have in the future.  Congratulations from us all.

November 2025

PETER MILLS

MEMBER OF THE MONTH FOR NOVEMBER
It is with huge pride that today I awarded my own darling husband with the Member of the Month for November.
I know the struggles he has had to keep active and the hard work and determination he has shown to keep going through illness and injury. At the same time he is amazing at supporting me and other people, whilst being so jealous because of his own limitations!
He is now the proud holder of the Men’s over 80’s 5k club record and has the determination to keep on breaking it. Watch this space
Thank you to everyone who nominated and voted for him!

October 2025

HARRY PLUCKROSE

MEMBER OF THE MONTH FOR OCTOBER
What a privilege it was tonight to meet Harry Pluckrose and present him with October’s MOTM trophy!
He only joined the club at the beginning of the year but is really making his mark as a smiley, cheerful and supportive friend to many on the track. His efforts in training are really paying dividends with great performances in races and collecting pb’s. He has that 20 minute 5k barrier in his sights and we all know it’s just a matter of time before he smashes it.
Added to his inspirational running is the way he and Ella Newitt have taken the club’s social media to new heights. They have worked together on Facebook and Instagram and our views and engagements have gone through the roof. More people are switching on to us and are interested in joining the club. Gail’s “This Girl Can Run” reel had over 9000 views!
So we thank you Harry for all you are doing for the club and we look forward to seeing you continue to improve.
 Congratulations on getting this award.

September 2025

JON WAIGHT

MEMBER OF THE MONTH FOR SEPTEMBER

What an absolute pleasure it was tonight to award Jon Waight with our Member of the Month for September.

Jon is a true legend of our club with his running, swimming and cycling. He regularly gets podium positions, club records and breaks pb’s in sprint triathlon as well as running. Last year and this year, he represented the country in the World Aquathon Championships.

If that wasn’t enough, this year, inspired by his son Jack and all of our Ironman, he set himself the challenge of stepping up to the Vittruvian Middle Distance Triathlon. This epic race challenged him to the full and lesser men would have given up. Jon battled on and in spite of losing his gels etc and suffering hypothermia, he managed to finish in an incredible time.

Jon, you quietly get on with pushing yourself through hard training and challenging goals. You amaze us, inspire us and richly deserve this award. Congratulations.

August 2025

ELLA WAGER

HRTC MEMBER OF THE MONTH FOR AUGUST

What a month August was for the club! Such amazing and challenging races by so many.
However most nominations went to our heroic Ironmen. There were 7 of them in all: Claire Carter, Louise Kedge, Ella Wager, Paige Bircham, James Catton, Gail Nichols and Ciaran Gilligan. We salute them and wish we could give them all a trophy.

However, as that’s not possible it has gone to the one person who has stood out amongst all the others. She came 2nd in her age group and as a result has been selected to compete for our country next year in the Ironman World Championships in Kona, Hawaii! She is also our magnificent Ladies Captain, supporting us all and inspiring us by her example. Her weekly race reports are brilliant and keep us in touch with everyone’s achievements.

Congratulations Ella Wager and thank you for all you do. You are an inspiring and motivating force of nature. We are all so proud of you.

July 2025

SHANNON BEALES

HRTC MEMBER OF THE MONTH FOR JULY

Huge congratulations to our latest winner, Shannon Beales. She has been such a superstar lately with a succession of pb’s whilst training for a marathon in Chicago.
She is a friendly, helpful and supportive friend to many, including her husband, Tom. She accompanied him for 35 miles on his recent epic 100 mile race! What an amazing couple.

Thank you to everyone at Harlow parkrun today who stayed behind to see her being presented with this prestigious award. She deserved your applause as much as she deserves being nominated and voted as our Member of the Month.

June 2025

ROB EARTHY

HRTC MEMBER OF THE MONTH FOR JUNE
Congratulations to Rob Earthy, our latest member of the month.
It was such a joy tonight to see the surprise on his face as I announced his name.
Rob has had a huge input and influence on many of our triathletes, particularly those training for the Ironman. He has a wealth of knowledge and experience and has used it to support, encourage, advise and help others.
His nominations spoke of him being generous with his time, selfless, putting others before himself and being a role model.
He is also an amazing athlete himself and in his first standard triathlon in quite some time at Windsor, came 1st in his age category.
Well done Rob, and thank you for all you are doing to support others.

May 2025

SUE REILLY

HRTC MEMBER OF THE MONTH FOR MAY
Huge congratulations to Sue Reilly who I had the immense pleasure of presenting with the Member of the Month trophy tonight on the track.
We love her because of the tremendous support she has given many of us with her sports massages. She is kind, friendly, empathetic and inspiring. The combination of her magic hands and calm encouragement has made a big difference to many of us when we’ve had an important race.
For the past few months she has pushed herself out of her comfort zone and taken on the rigorous training of a marathon. Her dedication to training was inspiring. She smashed the Edinburgh marathon in conditions that were far from ideal.
Congratulations Sue on your successful marathon and getting this well deserved award. We salute you.

April 2025

SHAUN WHITER

HRTC MEMBER OF THE MONTH FOR APRIL
Huge congratulations to our member of the month, Shaun Whiter who has inspired us all with the courage, strength of character, commitment and sheer will power he has needed to complete the London marathon.
His journey since his accident is simply incredible and difficult to appreciate for the ordinary mortal.
He is a perfect example of the saying “When the going gets tough, the tough get going!”
He is a hero to all of us and must also be to the young boy, Archie, who Shaun raised money for, to buy him a specialist trike.
Thank you Shaun for all you have brought to us at HRTC, a real life role model.

March 2025

SOPHIE EVANS

HRTC MEMBER OF THE MONTH FOR MARCH
What a joy it was tonight to present Sophie Mai Evans with this award.
She is a determined, talented and enthusiastic athlete who has been running so well lately as she prepares for the London Marathon. She has managed pb’s this month in the Half Marathon at Lisbon and in a 20 mile race at Twin Lakes.
She is also one of the friendliest, most cheerful, encouraging and fun loving members of our club, and is a delight to be around.
Congratulations Sophie on being nominated and voted as our Member of the Month and good luck in the London Marathon.

February 2025

LINDA HM

MEMBER OF THE MONTH FOR FEBRUARY
Sometimes it’s hard to track down the person who wins our Member of the Month and this month it was definitely so. Thank you to Paulene Galoppi and Alan Cootes for aiding and abetting me.
The wait was definitely worth it though, when I presented Linda HM with the award she so richly deserves.
Linda is one of our most prodigious and successful athletes, continually getting podium positions in her age group and this last year has broken many of our long standing club records.
She has wowed us all with her dedication, commitment and enthusiasm for even the toughest of races. She proved this in February when she won an exceptionally tough mountain trail race in Wales, beating other athletes in her age group who were born and bred in the mountains.
She is also an incredibly lovely person; full of smiles, kindness, encouragement of others, boundless energy and a zest for the great outdoors.
We are so lucky to have Linda in our club. She is great role model for us all. Thank you, Linda for all you do.

January 2025

ALAN COOTES

HRTC MEMBER OF THE MONTH JANUARY
What a joy and privilege it was to present Alan Cootes with this trophy after Gail’s Strength and Conditioning Class.
Alan has been a stalwart of the club for many years, giving his time as Vice Chair, volunteering, and leading groups in the Social Runs.
He is a lovely man, always friendly, approachable, caring and helpful.
Last year he gave himself (and all of us) a real health scare! He took it in his stride and is now working hard, to go from strength to strength with running and cycling. He is fearless with running events and it was great to see him running so well in the xcountry. He is winning races in his new age group and we are all in awe.
Thank you Alan for all you do for us. You deserve this award.

December 2024

JAMES EBSWORTH

MEMBER OF THE MONTH FOR DECEMBER

What a pleasure it was tonight to present this award to James Ebsworth. What a lovely guy! Since joining the club, he has gone from strength to strength, challenging himself in different distances and getting pb’s at every race.
He has gone above and beyond in his running and in giving back to the club by volunteering. He was one of the generous threesome who gave up their time in freezing temperatures to mend the wooden bridge for the xcountry.
We are so lucky to have superheroes in our club who give so much to the well being of others.
Thank you James for all you do and keep those pb’s coming.

November 2024

KERRY MAVRIS

What a privilege it was tonight to award Kerry Mavris the Member of the Month at the Christmas party.
Kerry, our very own Superwoman who was smashing ultra races in November.
She is a phenomenon and an inspiration. Her enthusiasm, determination, dedication and work ethics are eye watering, yet she remains a lovely, caring, encouraging and modest friend to all.
An example of her commitment to running was last weekend. In the middle of storm Darragh, she set off to run a 100 mile race starting in Eastbourne. On route she suffered a blow out in 2 tyres and had to wait for hours to be rescued, only arriving at her hotel at 5am when registration was at 10am.
Did it put her off? No! She still started the race at midday and kept going until midnight, when she had to drive home via Bexhill in order to give a lift to another competitor!
How lucky are we to have her in our club!

Congratulations Kerry, you have earned this award and nobody deserves it more.

October 2024

MARC WITHAM

MEMBER OF THE MONTH FOR OCTOBER
What a great pleasure it was tonight, to present Marc Witham with this trophy at the track session.
Marc is a lovely, humble and quiet guy who has been running for some time, but just lately has been smashing out pb’s galore. He has consistently been coming to 3 sessions a week at the club and inspiring others with amazing performances, including sub 20 mins parkruns!
He has had his injuries in the past and has come back faster and stronger. He is a real running hero and a great example to us all.

September 2024

LEE WEBBER

MEMBER OF THE MONTH FOR SEPTEMBER
What a privilege it was tonight to present this award to our HRTC hero Lee Webber.
Lee has really stepped up these last few months by taking on the role of organising Sunday social runs as well as coaching track sessions and being our race secretary. His hard work and input has made a great addition to an already great coaching team.
Lee is a brilliant runner and we are so lucky that he is such a kind, friendly and generous guy to share his expertise so we all benefit. He is a role model and thoroughly deserves this award.
Thank you Lee for all you do. We salute you.

Martin, we salute you and thank you for being a role model and showing us the way to winning!

May 2024

CYRIL CORNILLET

What fun it was tonight to gatecrash Gail’s Strength and Conditioning Class and present our lovely Cyril with the Member of the Month trophy.

He has been an absolute inspiration with the way he came back from illness, injuries and even a bike crash to train long and hard, and then produce great times for Ride London and a week later the D-Day marathon.

His cheeky humour, positive attitude and friendly disposition has charmed us all. Congratulations Cyril, you make our club special. You are a worthy winner and we thank you for the sparkle you bring to the club.

April 2024

Ella has wowed everyone with her hard working and dedicated attitude to training for the London marathon, Ride London and in the water too, where she is called the Mermaid.

She managed a sub 4 hour marathon and continues to inspire, support and encourage others. I’d say that was the reason she had 5 nominations for this award and was easily voted our latest Member of the Month.

She has managed some excellent pb’s in February and we’re all looking forward to seeing how she does in the marathon. No pressure, Ellie!
It’s great to see a relative newbie be such an inspiration to others.
Well done Ellie, we’re all so proud of you.

January 2024

SAM NICOLLS

HRTC Member of the Month for January 2024
What a privilege it was tonight, to present Sam Nicolls with the MOTM for January.
What a lovely young man who has worked so hard with his running and is now reaping the benefits.
He has been trying for sometime, to break that 30 minute barrier for the parkrun and in January, he finally smashed it with not one but two pb’s, well under his target.
He is friendly, always cheerful and it’s a pleasure to join him, with the pleasure he gets from his success.
